Lake City, IA: Life Enrichment Brings Fun and Games to Our Residents

What’s going on this afternoon?” That’s a question that always has an answer at Shady Oaks! Our Life Enrichment department, consisting of Deb Jones, Coordinator, and Deb Zenor and Leanne Everhart, Assistants, provides a variety of activity options from which to choose. The monthly activities calendar, is theme-based and offers activities every day of the week. Activities range from independent diversionals, and one-on-one visits, to small or large group activities. For example, the January calendar, “Stuck in the Seventies,” features lots of fun things to do: baking a Seventies ‘Sock It to Me’ cake, making string art, attending a “Feelin’ Groovy” party, listening to and singing 70’s songs, and 70’s word search puzzles and trivia, among many others. Coordinator Deb Jones explains, “Our calendar is full because I love working to provide residents with new opportunities and experiences, whether it be a group activity in the building or taking them on an outing to someplace they’ve never been before. I feel that it is very important that we provide our residents with a quality of life that includes not only superior physical care, but also exceptional attention to their emotional, spiritual, and social needs.” Assistant Deb Zenor adds, “I know that we all have a desire to serve others. Every day I look forward to coming to Shady Oaks to make a difference in the lives of our residents. I’m ready to serve in any capacity, whether it is leading a sing-a-long, calling bingo numbers, doing lotion therapy, or in any number of ways, large or small.” Assistant Leanne Everhart shares, “I enjoy listening to the residents’ life stories.” and watching how they light up when they compete at a challenging game.”

Quality Life: We will create a living environment that radiates love, peace, spiritual contentment, dignity and safety, while encouraging personal independence.
