Lake City, IA: Special Event Hits all the Right Notes

Music was raising the rafters on a recent Thursday evening at Shady Oaks! Over 50 residents, friends, and family members gathered in the main dining room to take in the terrific musical talents of the three-member band ‘Bare Bones Trio.’ Jack Yates, Eddie Simpson, and Larry Lind from the Fort Dodge area played a wide-ranging hour-long program of folk songs, country western tunes, and popular oldies. The men’s singing talents were on display as their smooth voices blended seamlessly together with inspiring guitar and percussive playing. An occasional kazoo spiced up the songs even more! The audience couldn’t help but to sing along and clap to the beat on most of the songs. Many residents were swaying with the sounds and even tapping their toes to the music too.
Tunes like ‘Country Roads, Take Me Home,’ ‘Teen Angel,’ ‘Jimmy Crack Corn,’ ’The Tennessee Waltz,’ ‘Blue Tail Fly,’ ’Jambalaya,’ and many others kept the audience thoroughly engaged and smiling for the entire performance. Of course, folks always enjoy hearing their favorites from famous artists such as ‘Your Cheatin’ Heart’ by Hank Williams and ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ by Elvis Presley. To top off a wonderful musical program, a special summertime treat, provided by Eleanor and Arlon Sigmon, was served to everyone who attended: homemade peach ice cream!
The residents and staff of Shady Oaks extend a huge “thank you” to the Bare Bones Trio and the Sigmon family for a super-fun evening of entertainment and tasty refreshments. Also, happily, everyone will have another chance to enjoy a large group musical event in December since the Shady Oaks Life Enrichment Department is planning to host these types of gatherings on a quarterly basis.
