Seward, NE: Penny Wars…A Success

A penny is so much more than one cent. Ridgewood played penny wars to raise money for the Vetter Foundation. Each household was given a large container (except the Robin household had 2) to play. The idea was to get as many pennies in your team’s container while skillfully “sabotaging” the other households with dollars and/or silver coins. On Fridays and Saturdays staff pay $2.00 to wear jeans or fun scrubs and the money could be placed in any container in any denomination. However, money could be placed in the containers any time during the week, night or day. Many people showed their “quiet” competitive side during the contest. The winning household would receive a cookie party from Eileen’s cookies and could vote for a leadership team member on the losing household to receive a pie in the face. Results (besides fun) the winning household was Robin with a total of $38.94 after subtracting silver and dollars from their grand total of $243.24. Hummingbird was second with $15.96 after subtracting silver and dollars from $80.76, Cardinal was third with -$12.79 after subtracting silver and dollars from their grand total of $129.01 and Meadowlark was fourth with -$15.23 after subtracting silver and dollars from their $131.67. The grand total for penny was ended up being $584.68 and combined with the other fundraisers we did, Ridgewood was able to provide $1000.00 to the Vetter Foundation.
