Lincoln, NE: CTRS Internship and Sensory Project

Heather Young, a student from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri completed her Clinical Field Placement Internship at Southlake Village Rehabilitation & Care Center. A minimum of 560-hours, over 15 consecutive weeks were spent under the supervision of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), credentialed by National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification. A Special Project, one that reflects scope of practice of a CTRS as well as benefits the Agency is required. Heather developed a Sensory Program, utilizing a variety of sensory items to engage residents in purposeful, meaningful experiences. She presented to Southlake Leadership a summary of the program, which included exposure to the materials themselves. Heather has successfully completed the NCTRC exam; and will soon be a new CTRS!
