Lincoln, NE: Sumner Place Spelling Bee

Eleven teams participated in the first Sumner Place Spelling Bee on Friday, March 29th, including residents, family members and team members. “Furlough” was the winning word and it was spelled correctly by “The Dynamo Team” (team members, Emily S. and Stephanie K. and resident, Onalea H.). Furlough means “leave of absence”. Onalea participated in her school spelling bee in 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. In 8th grade she won and made it to districts. After winning districts, she went onto the regional in Detroit, Michigan. Onalea was very proud to take home the Sumner Place Champion trophy this year! Thank you to our volunteers that helped this event run smoothly! We are excited for the next spelling bee.
