Norfolk. NE: Bel-Air Goes bananas For St. Jude

When your fundraising goal is lofty but you actually meet and exceed it … well, that’s cause to go a little bananas! Bel-Air raised $8,007.59 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital after a whirlwind of fundraising activities throughout the month of February.

Local businesses and artisans, as well as team members donated items for a silent auction and raffle. Raffle items included a 58-inch Roku TV, a remote car starter, an Instapot and Split the Pot cash prize drawing. The silent auction included themed baskets ranging from a grilling basket to wall hangings, gym memberships and a family portrait session, among many other items.

The Hot Beef Blast was a favorite and a large money-maker for the cause. Bel-Air served more than 300 hot beef meals. Community members could stop in and eat at Bel-Air or team members delivered to homes and businesses in Norfolk.

For Valentine’s Day, Bel-Air sold Candy Grams as a fundraiser as well. A King-sized candy bar or movie-sized box of candy with a special Valentine’s greeting were assembled and sold. Candy grams were delivered to residents or picked up by community members. A Bingo Night, scrap drive, and earring extravaganza round out the list of fundraising activities.

Team members also volunteered with a local radio station to answer the St. Jude fundraising hotline for several hours.

To celebrate, team members and residents “went bananas” with banana splits and monkey décor.
