Norfolk, NE: Local Wood Carver Shares His Craft

A local artist gave a special presentation on his woodworking creations at Heritage of Bel-Air recently.

Roger Nadrchal of Norfolk set up his wood creations – from wildlife to caricatures, Santas and bark carvings – for residents to view. He also showed them the specialized tools he uses for creating the carvings and showed some of his pieces in various stages of completion. He talked about how his use of natural wood, attention to detail and use of texture sets his creations apart from others.

A longtime artist using multiple mediums, woodcarving first piqued his interest in the ’80s, but he spent his time mastering other art forms. In 2011, Roger said he rediscovered his passion for woodcarving and hasn’t looked back.

He generously answered all of the residents’ questions about his art that went from a hobby to a business called Carved by Roger. Not only does he sell his creations, he also enters them into regional woodcarving shows. He also teaches woodcarving.
