Lake City, IA: Dining Experiences are a Favorite Topic

Shady Oaks residents enjoy meeting once a month with Dietary Manager Minnie Huster to discuss dining-related topics. The meeting, open to all residents, is held on the second Tuesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. in the assisted dining area. Regular items for discussion every month include: what foods residents have enjoyed during the past month, what foods they did not care for so much and why, and what foods they would like to try in the future. Discussion is wide-ranging and always interesting to participate in and listen to. Opinions are shared and suggestions are presented. Minnie is always willing answer any resident questions, address their concerns, and accommodate requests whenever possible. Minnie also reports on any dietary information that would be helpful for the residents to know about. For example, sometimes the availability of certain items is affected by circumstances that the residents are unaware of and Minnie is able to explain why. She also announces any upcoming special dining events, like the staff/resident and holiday meals. For many of these special events the residents who attend the Resident Food Council help to pick the menu. Being able to offer input is much appreciated by the residents and Minnie values the resident participation and interest in making the dining experiences at Shady Oaks the best of the best.
