Lincoln, NE: Vetter Scholarships Awarded at Sumner Place

Sumner Place is honored to announce that three of their team members were each awarded a $1,000 Vetter Senior Living Scholarship! All team members gathered in our lobby area on Thursday, December 13th for a little celebration. Larry Van Hunnik, Administrator of Sumner Place, presented them with their awards.

Shelly LeFever has been an LPN for the past 19 years. She has work for Vetter Senior Living for a total of 15 years. Shelly is currently attending Metropolitan Community College to pursue becoming a Registered Nurse. Not only is Shelly the Assistant Director of Nursing for The Loft but she is also our Infection Prevention Nurse, Quality Assurance Nurse and has also implemented an Antibiotic Stewardship Program at Sumner Place. Shelly is full of love and compassion. She takes time to listen to every concern and always goes above and beyond. Thank you, Shelly, for always having a “Yes I Can” attitude and willing to jump in wherever is needed.

Makenna Sheldon is our Staffing Coordinator. She started working at Sumner Place about four years ago as a Certified Medication Aide and Certified Nursing Assistant. Makenna is currently attending Southeast Community College in Lincoln for Long-Term Care Administration. Once she has completed that program, she plans on attending Bellevue University for Health Care Management. She is an organizer who visualizes results and directs her resources for the successful completion of her personal and professional ambitions.

Shelbie Bolinger has been working at Sumner Place for approximately four years. She started as a Certified Nursing Assistant and then an opportunity in our Restorative Department became available and she is now a Restorative Aide. Like Makenna, Shelbie is also attending Southeast Community College in Lincoln for Long-Term Care Administration. Shelbie is naturally caring and empathetic as she invests whatever is necessary to heal the needs and concerns of others. She shows the worth of each person by giving her undivided attention.

Congratulations to these very deserving Sumner Place team members! We look forward to watch them chase their dreams. Thank you to the VHS Academic Committee for Excellence for making these scholarships available to help others pursue their growth and education.

Excellence-We continually pursue opportunities to improve ourselves and the services we provide. We learn from our experiences, build on our successes, and make changes when changes are beneficial. We develop people’s strengths and remain committed to becoming the Best of the Best.
