Iowa Falls, IA: Baking a Birthday Cake

As meaningful and enriching the holiday season can be for many of us, it can be a challenging time for residents living in a nursing home. In preparation for for the holiday season this resident remembers celebrating her husbands birthday right after Thanksgiving and before Christmas. So as a Life Enrichment Coordinator it is very meaningful to me to help bring back memories for residents and their loved one. So Joy and I decided to make a horse shaped cake for her husband’s birthday. Who has raised horses all his life. Joy had so much fun in making the frosting and decorating the cake. And from the leftovers we even made a cake for the staff.

Quality Life:  We will create a living environment that radiates love, peace, spiritual contentment, dignity and safety, while encouraging personal independence.
