North Platte, NE: A Salute to the Military

Cottage Capers
Cottage residents boarded the bus early to make the day trip to Lexington, NE. Destination…The Heartland Museum of Military Vehicles. It was amazing to see what this museum had to offer. After a picnic lunch, residents were given a special guided tour. They enjoyed exploring the military vehicles and seeing the displays of munitions, uniforms, pictures and other memorabilia form WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Middle East and current military conflicts.
A special highlight was being able to sit in a Huey helicopter, jeep, and an M60 tank. It was especially impressive to learn that most of the more than 100 vehicles have been restored to operational condition. It was fascinating to view rockets and shells as large as a person. The many hands on displays were a wonderful way to experience things up close.
