Elkhorn, NE: Vetter’s Giving Spirit Extends to Homes of Hope

A used mini-bus and piles of new shoes will go to good use thanks to team members at Vetter Health Services and the Vetter Foundation. Recently a group of team members from VHS organized a mission trip through Homes of Hope. They spent a week helping build a home for an elderly woman in San Luis, Mexico. While they were getting to know people who lived in the area, they noticed many children who were going without shoes, or had shoes that didn’t fit, or were worn out.
They returned from their trip with a new mission – a shoe drive at the home office! Within a week, more than 300 pairs of shoes were donated! Team members sorted the shoes and bagged them up to be sent on their way.
At the same time, the Vetter Foundation had arranged to donate a used mini-bus to Homes of Hope. The bus was still in good shape, but ready for retirement after years of active duty at a Vetter Senior Living community. Curt and Kelly Van Ekeren, founders of Homes of Hope / Casa de la Esperanza, were presented with the bus, loaded with new shoes, during a special event at the Home Office.
