Home Office: Team Members Impressed with Convoy of Hope Tour

Members of the Vetter Health Services team attending the VHS Fall Conference in Branson, Missouri were treated to a warm reception and eye-opening tour of one of the larger organizations supported by the Vetter Foundation, Convoy of Hope, located in Springfield, Missouri.

Convoy of Hope works with churches, businesses, government agencies and other nonprofits to provide help and hope to those who are impoverished, hungry and hurting.

The Vetter Foundation has been a supporter of Convoy of Hope for 13 years. To date, Foundation has contributed more than $838,000. In recognition of the many years of support, President and Co-founder Hal Donaldson presented Jack and Eldora Vetter and VHS President Glenn Van Ekeren with crystal Convoy of Hope commemorative trucks.

Team members were given a tour of the headquarters and massive world distribution center. The Center is 300,000 square feet and is the equivalent of six football fields. The shelves are full of life’s essentials including food, clothing and emergency supplies. Approximately 98% of everything in the Center has been donated.
The tour also included a look at the 24-hour operation center where major events including earthquakes are tracked as they develop. The day of the tour, team members were busy monitoring the flooding in Louisiana and coordinating their response. As of August 26, 41 truckloads delivered 1 million plus pounds of product, more than 46,000 people had been served.

Convoy of Hope was founded in 1994 by the Donaldson family. Their inspiration for starting the organization can be traced back to the many people who helped their family after their father, Harold, was killed by a drunk driver in 1969. Today, more than 70 million people have been served throughout the world by Convoy of Hope.

Convoy of Hope has a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator for financial health, accountability, and transparency. More information on Convoy of Hope can be found at www.convoyofhope.org.
