Lake City, IA: Wild About Western Days

We had a great time participating in this years Western Days! Team members had the opportunity to sign up for the SMCH fun run and walk free of charge courtesy of Shady Oaks! Approximately 10 team members joined in on the fun as well as a resident. Tom S. was determined to finish and he did just that with his daughter and our DON, Kim Clark. After crossing the finish line he was awarded with a medal and finished “most senior pre-registered participant”. The fun didn’t stop there! Brittany Drew, Public Relations Coordinator, Robyn Flathers, Business Office Manager, and DON, Kim Clark spent the later part of the morning prepping for the big parade. Beach balls were inflated while candy was distributed into buckets. This year we had a festive addition to our truck in recognition of our 50th Anniversary. Brittany commented “I wanted to do something special for the parade and luckily I knew who to ask for help! Deb Jones from Life Enrichment and John Schumacher in maintenance helped create an arch in the back of the truck of which we then decorated with balloons. A couple Youtube and Pinterest tutorials later, we had the look we were going for”! Resident, David B. assisted in the parade by riding along and throwing out beach balls from the front seat. He had a blast and couldn’t believe all the people! The residents back at Shady Oaks enjoyed watching the parade from the parking lot and at the dining room window.
