Elkhorn, NE: An Unexpected Reunion

The anticipation of a reunion is a real delight. An unexpected reunion after many years is breathtaking.  One of our long-term residents was in the ice cream parlor resting from a long walk when a group of people came into the room. She immediately recognized the back of one person’s head, knowing it had to be her good friend. She was right! Her dear friend happened to also be at Brookestone Meadows for short term rehabilitation!

For many years these women were very close, “She was my best friend” our resident reflected, “We raised our children together”. They attended the same church, served on committees and were in a mothers group. Over the years they kept in touch with Christmas and Birthday cards but with busy lives, the opportunities to see each other became few and far between. Her friend’s son was her Veterinarian, but she had not seen the daughter since she was little. “It was overwhelming to see her family grown.”

As they shared stories and reminisced about gifting dishtowels they stitched, you could feel their joy in being reconnected.

Every day life produces unexpected delights. It may be something as simple as a budding flower or something as grand as a long-lost friend. Hopefully each of us is able to stop and relish in what life has in store for us that day.

Quality Life:  We will create a living environment that radiates love, peace, spiritual contentment, dignity and safety, while encouraging personal independence.
